Fellows of The American Dietetic AssociationCDR is no longer accepting applications for the Fellow of the American Dietetic Association. CDR conducted a scheduled evaluation of the Fellow Program in 2000-2001. Based on evaluation data, CDR supports the concept of a Fellow recognition program as a means for ADA to honor those who have demonstrated exceptional professional characteristics, but believes that the goals of the Fellow program will be more effectively met through an ADA recognition program. CDR also made the decision to grant then-current Fellows with lifetime certificates. Click here for a total list of ADA Fellows. The ADA Board of Directors appointed a Member Recognition Taskforce to investigate the process of developing a Fellow recognition program. One of its findings was that "Members expressed interest in a desire to have more value, emphasis, and publicity for current awards and honors at the DPG, affiliate and national levels. However, the majority of the comments stated that there was no interest in the creation of an additional member recognition program at this time." The ADA Board approved a motion that ADA would continue to promote all present awards and honors rather than developing and additional, new formal recognition program. While CDR is not currently considering reinstatement of the Fellow certification program, the possibility of an advanced level practice certification in the future is not necessarily precluded.
