Developing a Clinical Program for the Management of Childhood and Adolescent Obesity

Vanessa Thornton MS, CSP, RD

Vanessa received her BA from the University of Minnesota in Cultural Studies.  Before entering the field of Nutrition, Vanessa worked for a variety of child health non-profits including Community Health Charities, Make-a-Wish Foundation and FitnessForward.   After realizing helping children through nutrition was her true calling, she went on to earn her MS in Nutrition from Boston University.

Vanessa is currently the Level IV Pediatric Dietitian at Newton Wellesley Hospital in Newton, MA. In her role as an inpatient dietitian, she spends her time with premature infants in the special care nursery and pediatric patients with malnutrition, eating disorders and GI conditions. Her primary focus, however, is serving as the outpatient dietitian in the MGH for Children Ambulatory Care Center at Newton Wellesley Hospital. There, she coordinates the Adolescent and Young Adult Weight Management Clinic with an Adolescent Medicine Specialist. For the past 5 years, her clinic has served 300 children with obesity.

Vanessa lives in downtown Boston, MA with her husband and looks forward to either running or cheering at the Boston Marathon every year.
